Glossary

Breakaway: A coupling on the dispenser hose that separates and shuts off fuel if a driver pulls away with the nozzle still in the tank.
Shear valve (impact valve): A valve under the dispenser designed to shear on impact and seal off fuel flow from the tank, preventing a leak or fire.
